Fortune Cookie Analysis
I had Chinese food for dinner tonight, and fortune cookies were served after the meal. Most people assume that the "fortunes" always hint at some good luck or positive character trait, but I find that this isn't always the case. The following came from a cookie at tonight's dinner:
"Speak less of your plans - you will get more of them done."
At first read, this simply sounds like advice. Not necessarily the sign that you are going to with the lottery you were hoping for, but not bad. But is it really just advice? Maybe "they" are assuming that you speak too much of your plans. If that's the case, perhaps the fortune cookie is chastising you! Let's look at another one:
"Remember three months from this date. Good things are in store for you."
Why 3 months? Why not 3 days? What does the cookie know that we don't?
"You will receive unexpected support over the next week. Accept it graciously."
Again, seemingly positive but why the second part? Why wouldn't anybody accept unexpected support graciously??
I don't really have a point here. Fortune cookies are interesting and funny.
