Finally here!

Most of the day was spent traveling. Although I was disappointed that I didn't get an aisle seat on the flight to Belize, it turned out to be a good thing I had the window seat since I caught some great pictures.

Here is a picture as we passed over Cuba:

I learned a lot during the cab ride from the Belize airport to the pier. The cabbie told us the main industries in Belize are sugar, citrus, tourism, and oil export to Texas. He also said that there are a lot of Chinese people in Belize and proceeded to point out every Chinese restaurant and hotel we passed. Belize also has a good working relationship with Taiwan, and he had gone to see the President of Taiwan when he visited a few months earlier.

After the cab ride, we had to wait at the pier for the next boat. During this time we tried some of the local food and beer.

Below is a picture of the boat that took us to Ambergris Caye. The ride took about an hour and a half, which included a stop at Caye Caulker.

After arriving, we had to take another, smaller boat to a different part of the island. It was such a relief to finally arrive at the villa. Here are some more pictures of the place.

After settling in and enjoying more of the local beer, we decided to head out to Rojo Lounge for dinner, which most people told us was one of the best places to go on the island. Unfortunately, the island doesn't have much lighting at night so we stumbled along the beach with the help of Jean's iPhone Flashlight application. We finally made it there and the food was really good - tamales, shrimp penne pasta, and fried conch.

During dinner, one of the servers asked if I had been there before - apparently a few of them thought I was Ang Lee's son who had been there a few months earlier.

We were pretty exhausted and turned in shortly after dinner.

Long day of traveling!
