Review: Losing My Virginity
Don't get too excited - this is a review of the book by Richard Branson of Virgin Group, not my sexual escapades. The book describes the personal and business adventures of Branson's first 40 years. His background and experiences are fascinating although I could have done with less narrative on his risky attempts to cross the Atlantic, then the Pacific, and then the world in a hot air balloon. I did, however, appreciate the level of detail as he described Virgin Atlantic's battle with British Airways and how the line between competitive and unethical business practices was crossed.

I've never known Virgin to be anything but a huge congolomerate so to understand how it was built from nothing, the number of times it came close to folding, and how it often competed as the underdog was humbling. Most interesting to me were Branson's own thoughts and attitudes towards his experiences. Honest and reflective, Branson paints a picture of himself as an irreverent yet passionate individual who consistently strives to expand his empire on the basis of doing good.
We cannot recreate another's path in life, whether personal or business, but it is nevertheless interesting to discover the stories of those that have navigated the challenges and enjoyed the fruits of success in life. This is one of those stories.
Note: I will be travelling the next few days so stay tuned for more posts next week!
