Review: City of Thieves
Kindle price for this book is $15.99 while the hardcover at Amazon is $9.98. I don't really understand why the Kindle version would be more expensive, especially compared to a hardcover but it is what it is so I ordered the hardcover.
I started reading this book last week and finished it within 24 hours. I read until almost 4AM and debated whether to keep going but decided that I should probably get some sleep so that I could function and read the next day. I think I heard my roommate getting up to hit the gym as I was about to sleep. He is clearly on a different schedule.
After having a nightmare that someone ruined the ending for me, I got up and finished reading. First page-turner in a long time. This book was actually recommended by one of my teachers last semester - he recommends a book for each student to read after the class is over based on what he learns about us during the class. Not sure what prompted him to recommend this book for me but I definitely enjoyed it.
The book was written by David Benioff, who also wrote The 25th Hour. In this story he captures the journey of two markedly different young men that are fated to stick together as they struggle to survive in Soviet Russia under siege by the Germans. Benioff paints these characters vividly and holds nothing back in describing a journey that inevitably transforms the characters into greater men.
