Review: Simbala Restaurant
Made the trek out East to try Simbala Restaurant. I was excited, especially after seeing some traditional Taiwanese dishes on their menu like Oyster Pancake and Ba Wan (meat enclosed in some UFO-looking sticky, glutinous rice mixture). We had the Chai-Yi Chicken Rice, Mei-Chai Pork Rice, and Oyster Pancake:
Chai-Yi Chicken Rice - not sure what Chai-Yi means. Didn't eat much of this dish but the rice was topped with a tasty sauce that wasn't too heavy.

Mei-Chai Pork Rice - Mei Chai refers to the vegetables stewed with the fatty pork. This was my favorite dish since the pork was so soft. The side dishes that came with the rice weren't that great - veggies were on the salty side, the eggs were made with a ketchup based sauce, and the corn had too much starch.

Oyster Pancake - the chili sauce that covers the pancake is slightly sweet and is what the traditional dish uses. I would've preferred to have it on the side though. The eggs were overdone so we ended up just digging for the oysters.

Wasn't too impressed with my first visit but willing to give some of the other dishes a try.
