Amazon Online Tax

This new bill that was signed by Governor Brown imposing taxes on sales by online retailers has been most visibly relevant to Amazon. As part of their Associates program, I was notified first that should the bill be signed that contracts within California for their Associates Program would be terminated as the tax would affect the associates' sales as well. I then received a follow up to confirm. Here is Amazon's position:

We oppose this bill because it is unconstitutional and counterproductive. It is supported by big-box retailers, most of which are based outside California, that seek to harm the affiliate advertising programs of their competitors. Similar legislation in other states has led to job and income losses, and little, if any, new tax revenue. We deeply regret that we must take this action.

Aside from one poor interaction with their customer service related to my seller account, I feel that Amazon has done a great job with their customers, associates, and sellers. Don't know too much about these tax implications but I understand their position on terminating the associates contracts and whether unfortunately or fortunately, the termination of of the associates contract won't really affect me as people have not been using my links.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who won't be happy paying taxes on Amazon purchases now.
